Purpose of the charity

The aim of Csarity follows a long clinical scientific journey lasting at least 40 years in which Dr. Frisardi Gianni dedicated himself to the study of masticatory and trigeminal neurophysiology. At the time when the experimental scientific project 'Masticatory Neurophysiology' was born, study centers and researchers were rare in the world and in particular: Prof. D van Steenberghe of the Department of Periodontology, School of Dentistry, Oral Pathology and Maxillo Facial Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium; Prof. Barry J Sessle Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Prof. Kemal Sitki Türker Research Center for Human Movement Control, Discipline of Physiology, School of Molecular and Biomedical Sciences, University of Adelaide, Australia and Prof. Frisardi Gianni, 'La Sapienza' University of Rome.

This discipline tended to explore the profound mysteries of neurophysiology in the field of differential diagnostics (Central Nervous System tumors) which presented painful symptoms and which dental colleagues mistook for Temporomandibular Disorders; look for a 'Neurophysiological Index' capable of giving indications to the colleague on the right treatment without proceeding empirically; be of support in various disciplines such as maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics and oral masticatory rehabilitation. Unfortunately these procedures were and are still considered complex and expensive both for training and for instrumentation and in an era in which the simplest and most profitable path is preferred, this science has not been widely spread and proposed to the population. In the absence of this clinical scientific support and in the face of a spread of invasive, bloody and irreversible dental treatments, patients with orofacial discomfort and pain have increased exponentially, reaching a prevalence of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMDs) of 40%. Furthermore, among TMDs, patients suffering from serious neurological pathologies (brain tumors) that take at least 20 years to manifest are lost. In this case the laboratory diagnostic support of trigeminal and masticatory neurophysiology would be able to make a differential diagnosis many years earlier, saving the patient.

Due to the complexity of the subject and the instrumental cost, this clinical scientific support was lacking in terms of diffusion and medical services, so it was necessary to find a strategy capable of transferring know-how to humanity to improve their quality of life. This objective was focused on a philanthropic social model bypassing speculative profiles.

This is the reality on which the Masticationpedia project idea was founded

The Masticationpedia project idea, therefore, was realized following the steps reported:

1. Methodology: develop an experimental methodology tested in 40 years of trigeminal and masticatory neurophysiology documented by an official Frisardi Gianni press index and patented in Italy to not allow commercial speculation

2. Charity: choose an effective, simple and tested legal model that could be of support from a clinical training and social benefit point of view through the creation of Masticationpedia affiliated operational centres. It was preferred to choose the Anglo-Saxon line of Charities now consolidated by a century of experience.
3. Web platform: the project is difficult to articulate as it is not possible to move on to the creation of the Operational Centers without first going through a phase of scientific cultural awareness through virtual telematics. Therefore, a Wikipedia-type platform called Masticationpedia (attachment 1) has been created which citizens and colleagues can use to find the right answers for their profession and/or their health. In this model, unlike Wikipedia, it is not possible to implement by editing the encyclopedia for reasons of information security but only if selected by the Scientific Community which will obviously be increasingly numerous and detailed in its selections over time.
4. Masticationpedia Network: the professional ethical aim, once the scientific-cultural awareness phase has passed, will be the operational one where colleagues are trained and updated on the most recent and innovative neurophysiological methods and then used in Masticationpedia affiliated centres. This model is original in its essence because in exchange for a transfer of know-how, obviously paid by the learner, the colleague enters the Masticationpedia model contractually committing to dedicate himself to complex treatments (diagnostics and/or screening) as a social benefit. Obviously this commitment would be compensated by the visibility on the Masticationpedia website as there already are two in Italy, one in Roma (attachment 2) and another in Como (attachment 3). This operational path would give way to the implementation of countless opportunities such as the creation of a Telemedicine Center for connected colleagues, a milling center for a very high resolution CAD/CAM product, etc.

Constitutional documents

Being registered by the Charity Commission, due to the seriousness and rigor of the Anglo-Saxon institution, is not a simple thing so having been accepted and registered means having fulfilled all the requests of the English department. Masticationpedia can be easily documented on the Chariry Commission (attachment 4) online site where information can be extracted regarding the 'corporate object', number and names of the 'trustees' (attachment 5) and the 'economic performance' (attachment 6) of the first years.

Size of the charity in the last 3/5 years

As regards the implementation of the Charity, it is like the cat chasing its tail because the difficulties encountered in opening the account, obviously, did not allow us to sponsor the Masticationpedia project in the right way and above all not being able to request a state contribution English. Common even if taking its first steps in just three years, the most difficult to get a project off the ground, Masticationpedia has the following characteristics:

• Size: the economic performance and consequently the size of the Charity is summarized in the 'Financial history' (attachment 12) of the Charity Commission.
• Employees: in these first phases of logistical adjustment it was decided not to burden Masticationpedia with employees as volunteers all over the world already contribute efficiently, obviously only with regard to the editorial aspect of the web platform.
• Asset: the first complex work carried out in these first three years was the creation of the Masticationpedia platform (attachment 13) as well as having established scientific relationships with the University of Tor Vergata in Rome, Department of Mathematics.(attachment 14)

Financial support from the Charity

As mentioned, the difficulty in opening a current account has slowed down the financial increase of the Charity which in this phase had to refer exclusively to PayPal which unfortunately, not having an official current account, does not allow the request for published financing, donation through Transnational Giving Europe (attachment 15) which would allow the deduction of donations from all EU countries. The process of any emoluments could be of the following type depending on the evolution of the masticationpedia project, also including the final phase of the creation of the Operational Centers and affiliation:

• Method of collecting donations through PayPal and bank account for transfers from advertising on the site and sponsorships
• Revenue from the use of online training courses
• Financial recognition for the Masticationpedia brand in the possible organization of practical Residential Courses by affiliates
• Revenues from training services by medical and dental students or any availability of paid milling centers by affiliates

Implementation strategies

The phase of establishing Charity, creating the MediaWiki platform, maintaining the structure cost commitment and economic sacrifices deriving exclusively from the group of founding members even if due to logistical difficulties some of them such as Luca Fonatna, Luigi Filippetta were unable to upload them to the platform online from the Charity Commission. The implementation strategies, obviously, will be calibrated according to the construction logic, namely:

1. Visibility: despite the image of scientific prestige transmitted by Masticationpedia which allowed us to obtain accreditation with the non-profit Google which would allow us to benefit from a budget of €10,000.00 per month of free Google advertising, we have not yet succeeded to take advantage of the opportunity due to the impossibility of giving a mandate to Webagency at a cost of approximately €10,000.00 per year
2. Current programs: the soul of masticationpedia is essentially the scientific aspect for which it is essential to invest in research and experimentation. In this phase of compiling the chapters, an innovative aspect is being presented which concerns diagnostics following a quantum statistical profile which requires the support of physicists, mathematicians and software engineers to be able to implement programs with quantum computers from IBM or Amazon (AWS). This involves a cost of at least €50,000.00
3. Training centre: the necessary creation of a training center called Masticationpedia Education Center in Rome where most of the scientists, researchers and clinicians who gave life to the project and who could follow the affiliates are present. Obviously, once the training aspect has been initialized in the Education Center, there will be the opportunity to create other secondary ones in various countries around the world. This phase would cost at least €100,000.00. The Training Center would consist of a series of initiatives such as:
   • Dental Clinic: a compliant dental clinic to carry out treatments so that students can practically learn innovative neurophysiological methods (patients cannot be treated unless authorized by the Region and/or Municipality).
   • Parking: a garage to accommodate patients and trainees
   • Accommodation: rooms for food and accommodation during the training courses

Everything in one location to make your stay pleasant, clear your mind of urban planning problems (traffic, parking, hotels, etc.) and concentrate on training without distractions.

We believe that the primus movens for this extraordinary social scientific adventure is the opening of an English bank account, otherwise everything will remain a great unattainable dream.
